What Encre Vive does

Encre Vive is an independent publication dedicated to modern tattooing. It covers three editorial angles: professional tools for tattoo artists (software, hardware, apps), business guides (taxation, opening a studio, marketing), and AI-driven tattoo animation. The site also publishes a free AI animation tool accessible from the Studio area.

We only publish content designed to support a concrete decision by a tattoo artist, a studio or a client. No generic filler, no disguised sponsored opinions, no off-the-shelf rankings handed to us by a brand.

How we test tools

Every tool featured in an Encre Vive comparison is tested for at least three weeks in real conditions: importing flash sheets, handling appointments, exporting, integrating with a partner studio's workflow when relevant. Heavier software (studio management, design suites) is tested for a month or more.

• Software: personal trial account (never a vendor-supplied preview account without an explicit disclosure).
• Hardware and iPad apps: purchased or long-term loan, never a paid unboxing.
• AI animation: every tool is tested on the same ten reference tattoos to allow a fair comparison.

Critical findings are cross-checked with the vendor when possible to avoid factual mistakes. That does not change the final score.

How we assign scores

When a score appears in a comparison, it aggregates four axes weighted by tool category:

• Job relevance: does the tool actually solve a working tattoo artist's problem?
• Ergonomics: learning curve, daily friction, support quality.
• Value for money: compared to the direct market alternatives.
• Longevity: vendor stability, update cadence, roadmap transparency.

We never publish a score below 2/5 without contacting the vendor first so they can respond. That doesn't stop us publishing the score; it simply prevents factual errors.

Affiliate links and financial transparency

Some of the links pointing to third-party tools are affiliate links. Concretely: if you buy or subscribe via Encre Vive, the tool costs you no more and we receive a small commission that funds the site and the free AI animation tool.

Hard rule: affiliate links never influence a tool's ranking in a comparison. The "Our pick #1" of any comparison is the tool that scores best according to the methodology above, whether it carries an affiliate link or not.

Every article containing affiliate links displays a transparency notice at the top of the page. When an affiliate partnership is not yet active, links are neutralised and flagged "link coming soon".

Corrections and right of reply

If you spot a factual error in an article — outdated pricing, a removed feature, stale information — please write to contact@encrevive.com. Substantial corrections are flagged inside the article alongside the updated date.

A vendor mentioned in a way it deems incorrect can request a right of reply. We publish the reply inside the article, without modifying the original content unless a factual error is established.

Use of artificial intelligence

We use AI as a writing-assist tool (proofreading, structuring, first-pass translation). Every published article is then rewritten, expanded and validated by Claude Mercadal. No article ships without that human review.

AI-generated images and videos are flagged as such in the caption. Author portraits and team photos are never AI-generated.
